A new demographic of committed players is emerging, and for these players, the “inch deep, mile wide” approach of traditional camps is a source of frustration. Most clinics offer a bit of everything, but a mastery of nothing. This can lead to discouraged players, particularly when a clinic shifts focus to topics irrelevant to their goals.
The era of the social clinic served its purpose in the early growth of the sport. But for the serious student, the future of pickleball education is academic, structured, and performance-driven. This shift is what led Selkirk Sport to partner with Pickleball Coaching International to launch Selkirk Academy.
The Selkirk Academy philosophy
Selkirk Academy replaces the informal clinic model with a thoughtful, systematic instructional framework. The philosophy is built on three core pillars:

Theme-based curriculum: Instead of trying to teach the entire game in a single weekend, the Academy offers specialized camps based around themes like the power game or precision play. This allows players to pay for and focus on the specific element of the game they actually want to improve.

Dynamic skill diagnosis: While most camps group players by a general DUPR rating, Selkirk Academy recognizes that a rating doesn’t always highlight individual skillsets. Each camp begins with a diagnostic period where coaches assess specific skillsets (like dinks, drops, and resets) to group players by their proficiency within that specific theme.

Eliminating the instructor lottery: Quality shouldn’t depend on which coach is assigned to your camp. Every Academy coach is hand-picked and certified in specific methodologies, ensuring a consistent, high-level experience regardless of location or session.
Structured paths for serious players
The Academy is designed for the student who wants to see tangible progress. By narrowing the focus of each session, the curriculum provides more value and higher retention. Current offerings include:

Additionally, the Academy serves as a hub for professional development, offering official PCI Level 1 and Level 2 instructor certifications to establish a global standard for coaching.
Performance-driven learning and retention
A premium education requires more than just time on the court. To maintain a high standard of feedback, each camp features a Coach Assistant to accommodate a higher student-to-coach ratio.
The learning doesn’t end when the camp concludes. Every participant receives access to a personal digital database containing individual video clips of their play with coach commentary. This is paired with curated instructional content from Selkirk Pickleball TV to reinforce the lessons learned on-site.

Selkirk Academy is coming to Malaysia, bringing its globally recognised training experience to Kuala Lumpur.
Hosted at one of the country’s top facilities, PLAYA Racquet Sports @ PARC Subang, the experience is designed to match world-class coaching with a premium on-court environment.
